Our Judging Process

NAVC taps leading creatives and marketers from around the globe to serve as a judge for the annual VETTY Awards®.

These individuals are selected based on their extensive knowledge and demonstrated creative work. We purposefully seek out judges who have an in-depth understanding of the marketing industry’s evolving landscape. Our judges represent the best in their respective fields.

Judges are assigned categories based on their individual professional focuses. We require a minimum of three judges per category. Each judge scores entries individually. At the end, all scores are averaged together. Award winners receive Gold, Silver, and Bronze based on their averaged score.

Some of the questions judges are asked to think about when scoring entries include

  • Strength of concept
  • Visual appeal
  • Message persuasiveness
  • Relevance to the intended audience
  • Overall creativity

Entries are never judged against each other. Rather, each entry is judged on its own merit.

Awards Determination

As mentioned, the average score of each entry determines if it has received a Gold, Silver, or Bronze award.

Gold award winners’ scores are then evaluated based on the following:

  • Best of Show Awards – Overall, the highest scoring for-profit and nonprofit entries will receive Best of Show awards.
  • Large Animal Award – Overall, the highest scoring entry in the Large Animal Division receives the Large Animal Award
  • Judges Awards  – Judges Awards are presented to those entries meeting the criteria of excellence by their panel of judges. These are other top scoring entries.
  • NAVC Spotlight Award – A special award is selected each year by the NAVC leadership recognizing one outstanding entry.

Abstaining

We strive to find judges who are not bias. We also require that judges have not entered into the program during the year that they are judging. Judges do have the ability to abstain from judging an entry if there is a bias. Should this happen, we have alternative judges to tap.

Code of Conduct

Each of our judges volunteer their own time and professional insight as a service to the larger creative animal health care community. As part of this service, we ask each judge to be guided by two main principles of conduct in addition to our judging criteria and protocol:

  • Impartiality – Judges are obligated to remain unbiased during the process and abstain from showing preference to work submitted by entrants in their personal or professional network.
  • Diligence – Judges are required to ensure that all entries are scored fairly, considered equally, reviewed in their entirety and critiqued solely based on the information provided.
